Have you ever wanted to expose your innermost truths while hiding behind a refrigerator… for free?? Great news!
The Mental Felts are expanding, and we’re casting performers in the Denver Metro area of Colorado to bring more voices (and unhinged chaos) to the stage.
If you’ve got a story, a voice, or an overwhelming urge to make a puppet say things you’d never dare say yourself, we should probably talk. We’re looking for bold, fearless performers who are ready to bring felt to life, tackle real mental health conversations, and embrace Rockcovery—our loud, rebellious, screw-the-stigma approach to healing.
Puppeteers. Voice actors. Singers. Chaos enthusiasts. Your time has come.
We’re casting performers who:
- Have a voice that needs to be heard (several voices are preferred—because let’s be real, we all contain multitudes)
- Can handle a puppet (or at least pretend to until you figure it out)
- Are active in therapy, recovery or are just wicked passionate about mental health and want to channel their journey into something powerful
- Can bring big energy, big emotions, and a little bit of chaos to the table
Although we love it, experience with puppetry is not required—we care more about the voice, the passion, and the ability to make an inanimate object feel like it has childhood trauma.
That said, this isn’t therapy, and these puppets are a little unhinged. We’re looking for performers who are mentally well enough to engage in heavy topics with humor, nuance, and resilience. If you’re in a place where performing alongside emotionally volatile felt creatures sounds like a good time rather than a mental breakdown waiting to happen—this might just be your calling.
This is a voluntary gig (for now). We’re building something big, and our hope is that it grows into something sustainable, but at the moment, we’re working with passion, not paychecks.
Initial auditions are simple. Throw a sock on your hand, converse with your hand for a 1-2 minute video showcasing your vocal range. Bonus points if you work something personal into the performance. We want to see your heart and your talent.
To be considered, send the following to audition@mentalfelts.com:
- Your Name
- Phone Number
- A quick note on why you think you’d be a great fit for our crew. (Bonus points if you make us laugh.)
- Your audition video as outlined above
Call backs will include meeting and chatting with Roxie and one of The Mental Felts. Things could get weird.
What’s the commitment? Selected players will attend one weekly rehearsal and participate in filming extravaganzas as needed. You’ll be part of a creative, collaborative team working on content for social media, live events, and our upcoming YouTube reality show.
Inclusivity is non-negotiable. We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly, neurodivergent-embracing, full-spectrum-of-humanity-celebrating kind of operation. If you can’t handle that, you definitely can’t handle our puppets. Compassion and acceptance are required—for both humans and the puppet race.
Sense of humor required. Dirty and dark sense of humor preferable. If you think trauma bonding should come with a laugh track and that the best way to handle life’s chaos is with wildly inappropriate jokes—welcome home. We tackle real, heavy topics with irreverence, honesty, and just the right amount of bad taste. If that makes you clutch your pearls, this might not be your stage. But if you can find comedy in the messiest corners of life—don’t worry, we have a confessional to save you. Due to the adult nature of our vibe, performers must be 18 or older.
Being mentally prepared and well matters. Because of the emotionally heavy (and wildly hilarious) nature of our work, we ask that performers be at least one year into their recovery journey—whether that’s from mental health struggles, trauma, addiction, or life just being a relentless poopie face.
Do you have a voice, a dream, and questionable life choices that led you to reading this far? Great. Let’s get felt up!
